... my opinion this is a good book, it took me longer that usal to get into but once i did, i wasnt disappointed. The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Five Parts - Douglas Adams ... to set the record straight, these books have been seen as having cult status, mostly due to the frankly awful television adaptations and Hollywood film which simply could not do justice to such an intricate, compelling creation which Douglas Adams has crafted. The genre would be considered science fiction/comedy, and despite this not being a mainstream genre so to speak, it actually works brilliantly. Its intelligent, subtle and often dark humour. Think Black Adder (the BBC television series starring Rowan Atkinson) in space. This book was published in 1982 by Pan Books, Douglas Adams book "the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was recently created into a film which for me left a lot to be desired; unlike this book which was brilliant. The main character, Arthur Dent, wakes up in Prehistoric Earth. He is joined by Ford Prefect, an odd organic lifeform and other intriguing characters. Douglas Adams has worked really hard on little details that many readers would not notice, for example the PJ s worn by Arthur and the Towel carried by Ford are stuck firmly on the minds of anyone who enjoys these books, the way in which the characters are imp...
