Husbands - Adele Parks
Advantages: Very likeable characters, connection between Bella and Stevie
Disadvantages: No passion between them
Bella is happily married to Phillip, a kind, charming and sensible guy who makes her feel safe and secure. But little does he know that, technically, they're not actually married.
When Bella secretly got married to Stevie, her childhood sweetheart, when she was only 19, she didn't expect to ever get married again. But then Phillip came along and she never seemed to be able to find the right moment tell him about her other husband. So Bella decided to keep the secret to herself doubting she'd ever see Stevie again anyway.
But when Laura, Bella's best friend, introduces them to her new boyfriend, Bella's world is turned upside down when it turns out to be her Stevie. Pulling Stevie in on her secret and actually keeping it a secret now becomes so much harder, especially when both of their old feelings for each other begin to resurface.
~ My opinion ~
I've loved all of Adele Parks other books that I've read and I almost have her whole collection now but this one sounded particularly interesting.
The book is written with each different chapter being from a different character's perspective. The chapters switch between Bella, Stevie, Phillip and Laura which gives us an insight in each of the character's feelings which in turn makes us connect with them all even more.
All of the characters are great and every single one of them is extremely likeable despite the actions of Bella and Stevie. It's obvious that the old couple are still going to have feelings for one another considering the way they parted which their characters both explain through the book.
There is a slight bit of humour in the book but Adele Parks' books aren't generally meant to be comical. They're supposed to be on real life situations and powerful and emotional stories and this book is just that. Her writing style makes you want to find out what's going to happen next and the book kept me gripped throughout.
The only disadvantage I have with this book is that there wasn't much passion in it. From the blurb on the back of the book I would have thought that Bella and Stevie would have had a passionate affair but it wasn't like that at all and there really wasn't any passion between them. I could sense that there was a connection between them and it was obvious that they still had feelings for each other from the first moment they saw each other again simply from the way they seemed to fit into each others bodies when they hugged. They had loving and caring feelings for each other, that much was evident, but not so much lustful feelings.
Despite that one negative part, I still thoroughly enjoyed this though and it wasn't a disappointment as I generally have high expectations for Adele Parks' books and this one met my expectations.
Summary: Is one ever enough?
