Akimbo and the Lions is actually a book for children, aimed probably for 7 - 9 years, and I would say suitable for boys and girls, but I'm quite a bit older and did enjoy reading it! It would also be suitable to read to slightly younger children. Alexander McCall Smith is the author of over sixty books, now living in Edinburgh which is how my husband heard about him after an interview on local radio. He was born in Zimbabwe, but lived most of his life in Scotland. In 1999 he achieved global recognition for his award winning No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series.
