one black cat through to ten birds in the sky and eventually onto so many leaves that they can t be counted. The illustrations, in common with many of Shirley s books are an absolute delight and the fully compliment the pitter-patter tale as it unfolds. The illustrations are in a watercolour and ink style and are suitably detailed. They allow flexibility within the reading of this book so that the book can be read as a whole or you can take your time over the pictures and enhance the basic words with a game of "can you see the....". My son loves trying to spot some of the smaller items in the pictures and you can almost see him linking things together (such ...

Alfie's Feet - Shirley Hughes

Premium Review A good traditional author (216 words)
by doodles - written on 26/10/00 (Very useful, 71 readings)
Rating:

Shirley Hughes is an extremely accomplished author. I remember my mum reading these books to me when I was little and now I am reading them to my daughter. They are unaging and are as relevant now as back then. The illustrations in the books are really superb, somehow she manages to get every little detail in!. In the book Alfies feet, Alfie needs new shoes and his parents take him to buy some wellingtons, as Alfie is now a big boy he puts his own shoes on and they go out to splash in the puddles, Alfie soon discovers that his feet feel 'funny' and realises that they are on the wrong feet! As you can tell it is a very simple story but one that ...

Another story by the quite prolific story writer, Shirley Hughes. This book once again focuses on Alfie and his little sister Annie Rose. The Story The story starts with Alfie and Annie Rose comparing feet and describing the difference in size. Alfie knows a song he can sing whilst counting his sister’s toes, and there it is on the facing page- This Little Pig went to market”. The story goes on to describe how Annie Rose can move about the place-crawling forwards and backwards, and skidding and sliding about on her potty. “Annie Rose had some new shoes”. She has obviously started walking because there she is pushing her little cart; Annie Rose wears her new red shoes ...
