Shirley Hughes is an extremely accomplished author. I remember my mum reading these books to me when I was little and now I am reading them to my daughter. They are unaging and are as relevant now as back then. The illustrations in the books are really superb, somehow she manages to get every little detail in!. In the book Alfies feet, Alfie needs new shoes and his parents take him to buy some wellingtons, as Alfie is now a big boy he puts his own shoes on and they go out to splash in the puddles, Alfie soon discovers that his feet feel 'funny' and realises that they are on the wrong feet! The Story The story starts with Alfie and Annie Rose comparing feet and describing the difference in size. Alfie knows a song he can sing whilst counting his sister’s toes, and there it is on the facing page- This Little Pig went to market”.
