The Alfie and Annie Rose books always *always* have been favorites of my children. Charmingly illustrated (adorable pink-apple cheeked cherubs these children are), and well written, they're a great choice for reading aloud, but easy enough for a child to get the hang of. The books deal with everyday situations, in easy, lyrical language.

In this one, Alfie learns a lesson in impulsiveness and self-reliance when he races to be the first in after a shopping trip with mum. When the door slams shut.. with the key on the wrong side.. Alfie suddenly is locked IN with Mum and Annie Rose out. While the adults outside start planning how to break in and rescue him, Alfie .. well, I won't tell you.

I read this one so often that I had it memorized, but honestly, it never grated on me as so many others do. My kids never tired of hearing how Alfie solved his problem in the one way the adults never considered.

We give this one an A+ at our house. Hope it finds a spot on your bookshelf.
