Another story by the quite prolific story writer, Shirley Hughes. This book once again focuses on Alfie and his little sister Annie Rose. **The Story** The story starts with Alfie and Annie Rose comparing feet and describing the difference in size. Alfie knows a song he can sing whilst counting his sister’s toes, and there it is on the facing page- This Little Pig went to market”. The story goes on to describe how Annie Rose can move about the place-crawling forwards and backwards, and skidding and sliding about on her potty. “Annie Rose had some new shoes”. She has obviously started walking because there she is pushing her little ...  Read the complete review

Me and my children love these books by Shirley Hughes, they are about a little boy called Alfie and his sister Annie Rose. This particular title is all about going to buy Alfie some new shoes and how he buys a new pair of wellingtons and does the thing that all kids do and splash in loads of puddles. Alfie and his sister Annie Rose are two lovable kids who get up to everyday things and really are enjoyable to read about. There are several titles in the series and each one is as good as the next, a real pleasure to read for yourself and the children. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Alfie's Feet - Shirley Hughes: A good traditional author (216 words)

Shirley Hughes is an extremely accomplished author. I remember my mum reading these books to me when I was little and now I am reading them to my daughter. They are unaging and are as relevant now as back then. The illustrations in the books are really superb, somehow she manages to get every little detail in!. In the book Alfies feet, Alfie needs new shoes and his parents take him to buy some wellingtons, as Alfie is now a big boy he puts his own shoes on and they go out to splash in the puddles, Alfie soon discovers that his feet feel 'funny' and realises that they are on the wrong feet! As you can tell it is a very simple ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Another wonderful story about the loveable Alfie and his lit ... (189 words)

Once again Shirley Hughes delivers another timeless classic story about the ordinary occurrences in little people's lives, told in such a way as to make them fascinating to listen to for young children, and beautiful and engaging to read for adults. This time Alfie's feet get wet whilst on at trip to the park, so mum takes him to the High Street to buy some new shiny yellow boots. Alfie is so proud of his boots that he wears them everywhere, and eventually his dad takes him to the park so that he can try them out in the puddles. However, all is not quite right. As usual Alfie's little sisiter Annie Rose makes an appearance and joins in with the ...  Read the complete review

Alfie's Feet is all about what Shirley Hughes does best: she takes an ordinary little boy who needs new shoes & weaves around it so much detail & humour that it becomes a whole story with a life of its own.
