Advantages: Beautifully written and illustrated

Disadvantages: None

Once again Shirley Hughes delivers another timeless classic story about the ordinary occurrences in little people's lives, told in such a way as to make them fascinating to listen to for young children, and beautiful and engaging to read for adults.

This time Alfie's feet get wet whilst on at trip to the park, so mum takes him to the High Street to buy some new shiny yellow boots. Alfie is so proud of his boots that he wears them everywhere, and eventually his dad takes him to the park so that he can try them out in the puddles. However, all is not quite right.

As usual Alfie's little sisiter Annie Rose makes an appearance and joins in with the story.

Shirley Hughes' observations on children's behaviour is faultless, for example she cites the differing ways that Annie Rose can move about from crawling to skidding across the floor on her potty - hilarious. Both mums and children will be laughing and thoroughly enjoying the antics of these two endearing children.

The illustrations are perfect and beautiful in their own right.

Summary: Recommended for reading to young children and for newly confident readers to read for themselves
