Advantages: Well-written, absorbing tale

Disadvantages: You'll want to read it in one go - maybe too long

This most definitely a "read in one go if you can" book, because as the story unfolds you just become more and more wrapped up and absorbed in this astonishingly well-written and readable book. Margaret Atwood has been accused of being difficult to read, but this book most certainly is not.
It tells the story of a young girl accused of murder in 18th century Canada and keeps you guessing and guessing as to whether she did commit the crime or not. That is all I'll say on the plot because to add more would spoil the enjoyment and to begin with that is all the reader needs to know.
As soon as you form an opinion on what happened, bam! you are forced to change your mind and considering this is actually based on a true-life crime, the research and background study is phenomenal.
Well done Ms Atwood, what a truly awesome book, thanks for the pleasure.

Low rating because even if you do not feel you can talk about the plot, you could have talked about the themes - there really isn't enough information here. Furthermore, the book is set in the nineteenth century, not the 18th as you claimed.
