Aliens Love Underpants is a lovely and silly children's tale from author Claire Freedman and illustrated by Ben Cort. It has won the Richard and Judy's Children's Books Award for the 5+ category, and although our son is 4, he loves this book, mainly because the aliens make him laugh! The book tells of the real reason for aliens coming to earth, which is that they love the variety of underpants we have, from granny's frilly bloomers to mum's pink knickers! They try them on and play with them and get chased by the dog, and when mum comes out to get the washing in, they scarper quickly before they're seen. Aliens Love Underpants is a strange one. I bought it a month or so back for my 5 year old niece and everyone loves it, including my own 12 month old granddaughter who giggles at the pictures and likes the rhythm of the poems. The story is basically that there are no underpants in space and because aliens have such a fascination with this garment they travel all the way to earth just to play with and steal our pants! What makes Aliens Love Underpants so interesting though is the fact that this book is written in a lovely rhyming way that instantly captured my nieces attention and I eventually caught my nine year old granddaughter flicking through it and ...

I've recently been visiting my daughter, son-in-law and my lovely grandson Jack to celebrate his third birthday and to spend some time with my family. I live in South Wales and they live in London, so each visit means that I probably pay much more attention to Jack than if he lived near me.
