Advantages: Rhyming text, colourful pictures

Aliens Love Underpants is a children's book with a bizarre premise, just like most children's books! This one tells the story of aliens who love all shapes and sizes of underpants. Because there are apparantly no underpants in space, the aliens come down to Earth to play with ours!

The book is a large paperback with a glossy cover. It is attractive but due to the thin-ish pages I am not sure how long it will last with sticky little hands, unlike the thicker board books that you can get. The illustrations are very bright and amusing and should appeal to kids.

The text of the book rhymes, which is always a good way to get children to enjoy a story and to learn to say the words with you. The book uses reasonably simple words so it shouldn't be tricky for younger children to understand. The book can be read through quite quickly though so it won't entertain your children for long, though you can always read it twice!

I think the story will appeal to most children under the age of 5, as kids, particularly boys, always seem to enjoy toilet humour and anything involving pants! However if your child has a fear of aliens (some do!) then I would be tempted to avoid it as although the aliens are all fun and friendly, the end of the book does instruct children to be careful when putting on underwear as there may be aliens inside it!

The cover price for this book is a very high £5.99, but you can buy the book for £3.99 at Amazon.co.uk. However I would probably be tempted to borrow it from the library or look for a cheap copy at a car boot sale or charity shop instead, as I don't think it's worth that much.

Summary: A nice book but not one I would buy
