Disadvantages: text
Put a train on the front cover of a book and my son is sold, so we picked this one up from the library the other day.
This story is about a tiger who is upset he got no presents for his birthday, so gets taken on a journey on a lot of different types of vehicle.
The illustrations are the best thing about this book. They sprawl across the double page which means you lose a little in the crease of the spine, but it's nice to see books do this as it gives you lots and lots to look at which you don't get so much these days. The pics are bright, colourful and imaginative and in many ways more entertaining than the text.
The story itself is OK. It is written in rhyme, but the rhyme scheme and rhythm are all over the place and it's really hard to read properly which is kind of pointless. If an adult struggles, where's the fun for a kid?
If you liked it, there's a sequel called 'Jump In'.
All in all, an OK book which has annoying text but great pics.
Summary: still worth it
