Advantages: interesting and shows how far a mother would go

Disadvantages: boring at times

I know what you all are thinking and that is that this is definitely not my type of book, but however I always take a dip in the deep end when I need to definitely if a book is really cheap and the blurb (back of the book) makes the book sound really good. I bought this book from a bookstore called Bookends; I think they were getting rid of all their stock as they had lots of cheap book sales on at the time. I bought about 50 books for a great £10 and I have to admit I don't think I've read half of them, I can only remember 2 of those books which happens to be this one and a book called: "Golem 2: Joke - Murail Siblings" (<------ you can read my review on that book). So I guess that tenner could have been put to better use...

I had never ever heard of Christopher Brookmyre when I bought this book, so when I started reading it I decided that if I enjoyed this book I will buy more of his books, only now I am in between, did I enjoy it? Yes I did, however it didn't capture me. Therefore I plan to read some reviews on this author's other works and find a book most people enjoyed, and I will therefore make my opinion of this author known then. Only problem is; is that all the titles seem bland and boring... Here's a list of them:
- A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil
- Be My Enemy
- The Sacred Art of Stealing
- A Big Boy did it and Ran Away
- Boiling a Frog
- One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night
- Not the End of the World
- Country of the Blind
- Quite Ugly One Morning
See what I mean, non of them sound at all interesting, apart from "Boiling A Frog", that sounds as if it has comedy enrolled into it, though I cannot be totally sure! I may endeavour that book if the reviews on here say that it is good.

This book is about a forty six year old person called Jane Fleming, she is a Grandmother and has never done anything wrong, she hasn't even gone higher than the speed limit but her son is in terrible danger and if she doesn't break all the rules now he could die... How far would you go to keep your son alive?

Okay so... maybe I've made the story-line really short, but I have already told you that I didn't know what to think about this book. I think that is almost basically the story-line, however it is dramatically dragged out which gives it both emptiness but also makes you intrigued to find out more. I think that there is the main story line, then you have the little story lines that separate silently away from the main plot which probably what made me unsure of how to rate this.

I reckon that I did initially start this book 1 complete year ago, and was getting bored with it, so I decided that this was my "School book". This means that it's the book, and the ONLY book I take to school to read when I'm doing nothing. This helped me to finish the book; yup this book was THAT boring at times. I think taking it to school helped me to actually finish it, as I could tell that I wasn't going to finish it any time soon.

If somebody gave me the chance to re-read it I'd probably say no within seconds, however if they said I could think upon it then maybe I would change my mind... I think this book is more suited to adults... I am mealy a teenager (well close to a young adult) and I feel that this book was too much, and is the sort of adult book I would read after getting used to adult fiction. I am fairly new to the adult fiction world and therefore couldn't really force myself to read complicated books, I do presume that there is more complicated books that I'd probably give up on, so maybe I will try out another one of Christopher Brookmyre's books to see if I could get used to his writing technique.

This book just wasn't right for me and if you tend to read the same books as me I predict that this book wouldn't be for you either, however if you think you want to take a plunge in the deep end (and I'm telling you that this is the extremely deep end) then I do recommend this to you, but you'll have to try and understand it.

Thank you all for reading and I really do hope that I have helped you! Keep on rating and commenting! Thanks

Christopher Brookmyre is brilliant!!! I love his books. (Boiling a Frog is genius - I've seen a stage adaptation of it as well which was really good too) Caroline xx
