Advantages: great book
Disadvantages: none
All in one piece Jill Murphy This again is a book I bought in the charity shop for 20p its full price is £4.99. I bought it as an addition to Adrian’s library. This book was published in 1999 so it’s not that old I have read this book before to children at work and enjoyed reading it and the responses it got from the children This book is suitable for 4 to 6 year olds reading level 2. The story is about the large family an enchanting elephant family Mr Large Mrs Large their 4 children baby Lester, Luke and Laura and granny. Mr and Mrs large are going out to the office diner dance granny is going to baby sit. This story is about Mr and Mrs larges attempt to get out of the house all in one piece. A lot of you parent will know how difficult that is. Granny arrives at tea time to keep the children amused while Mr and Mrs large get ready to go out granny gives them some painting to do. The children sneak of to see their parents Mr large is shaving and tells Luke who is getting shaving foam everywhere to go away baby goes and helps himself to mums make up a baby with lipstick and colours everywhere pretty2 Laura clops about in mums high heels and is wearing her jewellery while Lester and Luke have fun stuffing her tights full of toys understandably Mrs Large yells at the children “can’t I have just one night when I am not covered in jam and paint? One night when I can put on my new dress and walk out through the front door all in one piece? . The children go downstairs sheepishly to granny. Mr and Mrs large finish getting dressed Mr large very smart in his best suit Mrs large says how do I look to the children pretty mummy gasp the children like a film star says granny the children approach mummy with painty hands………… Hands off she says. Good bye they say baby starts to cry granny pickles her up "Go she will stop as soon as you have left have a lovely time.&quo
t; Mr and Mrs large escape and marvel they have left the house all in one piece Mr large says you’d look wonderful to me even if you were all covered in paint and they walk of happily arm in arm” I am sure this story is a familiar one to a lot of families one child will relate to. I hope I keep Adrian better occupied when I baby-sit and his parents are about to leave. I can certainly remember Sally getting my make up everywhere and clomping around in my best shoes. The illustrations in this book are great lovely expressive faces on the elephant family the sheepish look on the kids when mum “Bellows downstairs” at once the look of concern on mums face when baby cries. This book is great to read to children making sure you show them the pictures. Children will be able to read this book once they have learnt to read a little not for the very beginner readers but for when a child can read a few words and goes on to the next stage of reading. It is a good book to practice reading with at home. The type is clear the words are ones children will know. It’s an excellent book to have in the library. A good book for your Childs bedtime story or to read with your child anytime. Children love the humour that is in it and the events will be familiar to parents. . Enjoy reading with your children thanks for reading this review Mary
