I originally wrote this review on 1st December 2006, having been 6 months smoke-free and updated it on 1st June 2007 - the 1st anniversary of my husband and I stopping smoking. Another 8 months down the line I have to admit that hubby did have a little blip and briefly took up smoking for a couple of months (due to stress at work). And I have to admit that when I was drunk I had a few fags myself (although I didn't take it up as a habit again). I find sometimes that when drunk I want to smoke if other people are smoking. However, hopefully that blip is behind us now. Hubby did re-read the book before stopping again, and again had no trouble. Anyway, ... Read the complete review

I hate smoking, but am addicted none the less. Lambert lights, Mayfair smooth, B and H will all do, and I am one of the few smokers who will admit that although these are my preferred brand, I would gladly smoke a sheep's spinal cord to get a hit of nicotine during a particularly heavy withdrawal period. I had to work hard to become addicted. Every smoker does. The initial first few experimental cigarettes you have as a teenager taste absolutely revolting. They make you feel dizzy, nauseous and more often than not repulse rather than allure. Perseverance to smoke was required. Perseverance to spend money, age my youthful looks, make myself stink and ... Read the complete review

I have decided to write this review, because along with thousands of other people, this book did work for me. I bought this book from Amazon after one of my friends told me about someone she knew who had quit just by reading the book. At first, probably just like many of you smokers, or non smokers searching for help for a loved one to quit, who are reading this, are probably thinking, how on an earth can reading a book stop me smoking? Please read on..... The Author, Alan Carr (No not the comedian): Alan Carr started smoked for 30 years and he eventually quit aged 48, after coming to the realisation that it was the fear of ... Stop trying other methods to stop smoking, this book/method works! And works for virtually everyone who reads it. Forget patches, nicotine gum, Sprays, Inhalaters, Plastic cigarette's, hypnosis, aversion therapy etc..They all try to tackle the symptoms of smoking i.e. dealing with cravings and replacing nicotine in a different form. Allen Carr approaches the 'smoking trap' from a revolutionary different angle, his method tackles the root causes of smoking by answering certain fundamental questions: 1.Why do you smoke? 2.Why did you start smoking? 3.Why do you carry on smoking? 4.Why don't you quit? Once you know the true ... Read the complete review

Ok, so it’s not likely to win any prizes for writing style or phraseology, but Allen Carr’s easy way to stop smoking certainly offers just what it says. Some of you may have noticed that I wrote a review just over a year ago on a relatively new quit-smoking aid known as Zyban, and how happy I had been to have become a non-smoker with the help of this drug. You may therefore wonder why I felt the need to read the book so long after stopping. The truth is, like so many other smokers who quit using the “willpower method”, as Allen Carr refers to it, even months after I had stopped smoking I was still craving cigarettes. Then, one drunken night, the ... Read the complete review
