Men are zany aren't they? Whilst the fairer sex are thinking about important things like the kids or keeping their jobs men are busy thinking what would win in a fight - a shark or a hippo? In my opinion a hippo, but that depends on the location. In today's society, where a man has to be about as mature as an infant joining toddler group to function, there is nothing to stop them remaining thus for their entire lives. Such is the will not to conform that an entire genre of silly quest non-fiction has risen with the likes of Tony Hawks, Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace leading the way. These men take it upon themselves to spend weeks away from their loved ones to attend ... Read the complete review

AMERICA UNCHAINED: A FREEWHEELING ROADTRIP IN SEARCH OF NON-CORPORATE USA is the title of comedian DAVE GORMAN'S coast to coast trip of America. The book centres on Gorman's grievance that America has lost it's identity and relies on chains for business meaning the local businesses are ceasing to exist. Consequently, Gorman decides that he is going to drive from coast to coast only using local businesses along the way and avoiding giving any money to the man. Along with camerawoman Steph, Gorman experiences many adventures along the way meeting an array of characters from meeting the man he brought his classic American car to go travelling in to ... Only one slight snag, you need to do all of this without spending a single penny in a chain store, chain gas station or chain hotel. This is Dave Gorman's quest, and he chooses to accept it. This book follows his journey across the good old US of A and we learn about the good times, the quirky B&B's the friendly people of Kansas and then there are the bad times, the director hurting her back, being held at gun point and some of the scummiest motels in the world. Detailed Review:: *SLIGHT PLOT SPOILERS* I don't know much about ... Read the complete review

Comedian Dave Gorman spent 4 months touring America doing his stage show, going from city to city, staying in what looked like the same hotel rooms wherever he went. He became depressed and longed to see the real America. That's where he came up with his latest wacky idea: Drive coast-to-coast across America avoiding the big chains and only using local family-run businesses for food, "gas" and hotels. After purchasing a 1970s Ford Torino, Dave and his camerawoman (Steph) are off on their 3,000 mile journey to New York. However, Dave is easily distracted and their planned route quickly goes out of the window as Dave looks to drive though small towns ... Read the complete review

After reading 'Are you Dave Gorman?' and Googlewack adventure, I couldn't wait to get my hands on American Unchained before I set off to the states. Mr G spent four months going around the States living in souless chain motels, seeing the same drab interiors and giving money to The Man!! With his trusted Torino - the last digits of the reg are 666 and his friend Steff and her cameras they set off on a simple tour of driving coast to coast. Anyone who's read a Dave Gorman book will know that things never go according to plan and that certainly happens in this ... Read the complete review
