fantastic!!! (American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis)

Advantages: the judgement of falsness in society! Disadvantages: none
I think this novel is fantastic! The way Ellis takes the reader into the mind of a psychopath obsessed with people's appearances and killing and depressed at the sad things in the world (e.g. the homeless) is frighteningly believable and frightening. Aside from the main story the novel is also packed with plenty of themes and ideas that are well explored, and make it a book to be read more than once. For example, it examines people's growing obsession with material goods, along with the shallowness, selfishness and falseness of people within the society it examines. <p> American Psycho is one of the deepest horror novels I've ever read, and also one of the best ever written. I recommend it to absolutely anyone, although warn that many of the horrific incidents that occur are extremely cruel and shocking and will not be liked by those easily offended. Summary: |
