Advantages: Very well written
Disadvantages: none
Patrick Bateman is a very neat and well dressed yuppy. Being quite high up in his fathers company he is quite well off aswell. Oh and he also kills people. The book is kind of his confession about his unusual habbit. The book takes us very graphically, through a few years of his life. Be warned...if you're squemish you may not like it! The detail within the book is absolutely amazing. The descriptiveness of the killings is quite gross, but moreso because of what he actually does. From bursting someones eyeball with a lighter to inserting a rat into a place where it really shouldn't be inserted....you're in for a very interesting and cringe-filled read! Nevertheless, the book is absolutely brilliant. Bret Easton Ellis's style of writing is very detailed. The extraordinary descriptiveness doesn't only cover the sex and death parts though. There are a few whole chapters purely dedicated to bands that Patrick likes to listen to. These are very odd but add to the "surrealness" of the book. This book is definately worth reading if you aren't to squemish or easily offended. I found the writing style like no other author I have read before, which was a really refreshing change for me. This is probably why I liked it so much. It is worth checking out and is probably better if you read it before you see the film. P.s don't think I spoiled it from the title or the examples....there are definitaly some worse ones in there!
