Advantages: Very Descriptive, Just can't put it down!!!

Disadvantages: Very Descriptive... Can upset the stomach!!!

I bought and read this book when it first came out, during all the controversy. After finally finding a shop that actually stocked it, as several had banned it here in Glasgow, i started it and found that i could not put it down. And i have since read it a second time.

The story is about Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street Business type by day and Sick Deranged Serial Killer by night.

The story is told as a sort of narrative, through the eyes and the day to day goings on of the main character. And having read the two previous Novels by Brett Easton Ellis, i was familiar with his style of writing.

As the tale unfolds, we get to know the two sides of Patrick Bateman and through the very descriptive (maybe too much at times) narration, we really get a real insight into the mind of a deranged madman.

Some parts of this book will shock you, some will make you laugh.

I have to say that i really enjoyed this book and now it has made it onto the big screen, it was interesting to see how they would actually do this due to the nature of the story and all the graphic violence. Lots of stuff has been left out as it would have been too much for the screen and may have offended, but the story itself is there. In the end i suppose the book is always better than the films.

If you are easily offended or have a weak stomach, then maybe this book is not quite for you, but if you are looking for a really well written and humourous, yet graphically violent and disturbing story, then you should give American Psycho a read.

Available now as the movie tie-in and a lot cheaper than it was when it first came out... and easier to get now as well !!!

Did you know there's a Manic Street Preachers song called Patrick Bateman about the guy in this book?
