Advantages: Focuses on the dark underbelly of "high" society

Disadvantages: Very,very violent

First of all I would like to clarify that I read the book about 3 years before the film came out when my brother was in the middle of reading the Easton-Ellis books(I point this out because the film is not as good and I would advise reading the book FIRST!).The important thing with this book is to remember that there is a lot of butchery later on in the book so if you are even marginally sentisized by the Rambo films this is probably not the book for you.
Despite these remonstrations this is a very good book.Ellis examines the lives of yuppies,we never find out what his job actually entails, through the eyes of the narrator,a psychopath.
In the book we see the descent of the narrator from apparent normality to madness. It is amazing to see the respect with which he treats his consumer goods and the caloussness with wehich he treats human life. This book is really an astonishing look into late 80s/early 90s high(ish) society and can be frequently blackly humorous. Not for the faint-hearted but if you are not then enjoy!
