American Psycho is a stunning and beautiful jouney into the mind of an individual who"just wants to fit in". The reader embarks on a wonderful excursion into the skull of New York yuppie Patrick Bateman. What I wouldn't give to be able to go back in time and read this book for the first time. Up to the present, I have read the book in excess of 43 times at my last count. However, I officially lost track once I got to fourteen. A side note: I watched the Patty Winters show this morning, and her first guest was Bigfoot. I was amazed at how charming and articulate he was! Her second segment featured women who had been the victims of torture and their torturers (who appeared via sattelite). Yesterday's guest was a cheerio. Splendid! Anyway, back to the book. Some of my favorite (or as you British may say "favoUrite") parts include but are not excluded to the scene with Tom Cruise in the elevator and the scene with his brother at Dorsia. He had to clench his hand so hard that it started bleeding just to prevent himself form mentioning how his brother had begun to pluck his eyebrows. This book is so quality that mere words do not do it justice. Therefore, I must cease to type...but I can't...I must procede...like a man paralyzed from the waist down who finally found a woman who wants to get freaky with him. "Your name is Christie and you wil respond only to Christie". Move over Jonathan Swift, Bret Easton Ellis has masterfully perfected the art of satire. The one thing that I wondered about the book was how did Bateman find the time in his day to accomplish all of the things he would do. My answer is that he must have been an insomniac, although that is not addressed in the book. I will offer a concession and admit that this book is not for everyone. Alot of women will be offended be some of the graphic violence and sex. Also, Bateman's sense of humor appeals to a very select and adroit group of human bei
ngs, of which I am proud to be a member. So if you are a male who is looking for a ride on the hilarity train, check out American Psycho. And remember...inside...inside is what matters.

I mainly enjoyed the book - although it's probably odd that I objected more to the long, rambling diatribes on Huey Lewis than the violence! ;)

Oh, and a warm welcome to Dooyoo is due, I see! Been a little bit harsh with my rating, but the diversion into daytime talk shows and Tom Cruise just confuzzled me. Don't be in the slightest bit discouraged, though - take time to settle in, read lots of other reviews, and you'll get a feel for the place. In the meantime, enjoy writing and being a member :)

I have read this book and found it completely sickening. It is an example of a book where the author was on a deadline and hadnt written most of it.
What Ellis came up was a load of nonense that a teenager could best.
Glad you enjoyed it though!
