You may or may not have heard of Oliver Sacks so before I tell you all about the book, let me tell you a little bit about the man himself. You may be familiar with the film "Awakenings" which starred Robin Williams. In it, a young neurologist treated a group of post encephalitic patients, a neurological condition that left them in a zombie-like state. This neurologist managed to 'awaken' the patients by administering a drug called L-DOPA. These patients came back to a life as we know it, only to tragically re-succumb to their original condition as the effect of the drug wore off and their bodies and minds became immune to its effects. ...
