Guns of the South: A Novel of the Civil War
by bwana.mdevu - written on 02/02/01 (Very useful, 51 readings)
Rating:
Imagine it`s early 1864-the Confederacy have just been knocked for six at the Battle of Gettysburg and the tide of the war has turned in the Norths favour-or has it? The Souths General Robert E.Lee is approached by a man who offers him a remarkable weapon in quantities that can not only resupply his Army of Northern Virginia but also provide each man with unbelieveable firepower. This unknown mans accent is very strange but then so is the weapon on offer. Its a chance that Lee cannot refuse for there is no denying what an AK-47 automatic assault rifle could do to the progress of the Civil War!! Turtledove has created an history of a Civil War that never happened. His storyline ...

Worldwar: Upsetting the Balance - Harry Turtledove

I finished reading Colonization:Aftershocks at about 3am this morning. I have never felt so cheated and betrayed in my whole life. This was the worst book ever written by anybody. I urge you people not to waste your time with any more of Turtledove's work. I had read some reviews of this book on Amazon.com and should have known better but this book reeked. Now I admit I haven't really read any books since I had to read Huckleberry Finn in the 5th grade and I only read half of that. But this book was awful. If I was haftin' to do my kids homework and write them up a book report I would be unable to think of a single thing that happened in this book or identify the ...

Worldwar: In the Balance - Harry Turtledove

I am a sucker for alternate history Sci-Fi which is why this book attracted my attention. It is the first in a trilogy covering an invasion of earth by a fleet of huge ships from a race of Lizard creatures. So far, so V. What makes this book singular is that it is set in W W II. The invasion by a vastly advanced race forces earth to halt the conflict and in some way unite to defeat a common foe. Now I am also a complete sucker for WW II related stuff, (which means I will go and see "Pearl Harbour" even though I KNOW it will be a pile of pants) and it was the prospect of spitfires and messerchmidts battling with saucers that grabbed me. I think that that war was the ...
