 ... least favourite fairy tales but Julia Quinn has actually made me enjoy this. I think the primary reason why I liked this was the characters. Sophie to me appears to be more a survivor than a victim, never once letting her difficult life drag her down and never giving up. Throughout the book she experiences one hardship after another and while she does experience a rollercoaster of emotions she doesn't tend to dwell too much on the negative when she can help it. An Offer from a Gentleman is the third book in Julia Quinn's historical romance series The Bridgertons. The series is set in the early 1800s and is about the eight Bridgerton siblings. Each books focuses on a different sibling and their love story. This book focuses on Benedict, the second oldest Bridgerton sibling and Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl. The plot to this book is not an original one, it's basically Cinderella re-written. After Sophie's father dies her stepmother begrudgingly keeps Sophie in her household in order to have the extra money that her late husband promised if she looked after his daughter.
