Astonishing X-Men Volume 1 - Joss Whedon

Premium Review Buffy the Mutant Slayer...wait...that's wrong. (281 words)
by LastLine - written on 22/06/09 (Very useful, 8 readings)
Rating:

Astonishing X-Men follows on from Grant Morrison s New X-Men series and features many of the same characters. The key writer in this series is Joss Wheadon of Buff the Vampire Slayer fame and he definitely brings his own flavour to the X-Men saga. The first trade paper back tends to focus on introducing a number of new characters as well as setting up the appearance of several previously known characters. Emma Frost and Scott Summers lead up the team which makes for an interesting dynamic, and sadly puts a slightly emo feel to the team which soon gets old. Hopefully the dynamic will prove to have some rational behind it as the series develops. The series returns several ...

Astonishing X-Men Volume 1 - Joss Whedon

Premium Review An 'Astonishing' Revamp of the X-Men Series (194 words)
by nunbean - written on 27/11/08 (Useful, 12 readings)
Rating:

As a keen X-Men and Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) fan when I saw that these comics were being released I was very excited. And I was not disappointed. This new take on the X-Men series shows quite an assorted team of X-Men characters along with ex-villain Emma Frost reforming the Xavier school. It's not long before the X-Men are threatened by the mysterious Ord (no not Magneto this time) and this new X-Men has quite a dark undertone to it. As for the graphic novel in general the illustrations are very good quality, no suprise for a Marvel comic and are very pleasing on the eye. The story progesses very quickly and does assume a lot of ...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home - Joss Whedon

Premium Review Buffy returns in comic book form (573 words)

perhaps, the only way it possibly could. No, not as a bigscreen movie, but as a comic book. The much talked about Buffy Season 8 comic series has Joss Whedon at the helm as executive producer, similarly to the TV series. he also writes the first five issues to make sure that things start with a bang. Boy, what a bang. Joss Whedon is a fantastic comic writer and here he s well aware of the challenges that faced him writing this comic - having to transfer a character successfulyl portrayed on Tv for seven years into a new medium and yet after only two pages I naturally felt right at home experiencing Buffy in this way. The fantastic dialogue is present and correct ...

Products similar to Angel Scriptbook - Joss Whedon...

Tense, atmospheric, compellingly written Dialogue feels slightly stuffy in places

Fascinating, compelling, staggeringly detailed Too serious

some very clever mickey-taking of Australia and it's culture(?) not very big on convincing plot-much too complicated for own good

Light hearted fun, good adventure and a little politics to boot Desperately cliched, uninventive prose and storylines that go round in circles a bit.

Deeper characters, a subtler plot that even moved me at points. Less pointless running around. Weis and Hickman still can't exactly turn a good phrase and this isn't exactly deep

Much better than volume three. Things happen. The plot moves. Rejoice Not all that much happens, really all things considered. Lacking in complexity
