Advantages: easy read

Disadvantages: depressing

Although I'd recommend it I wouldn't say it was a favourite.

It's easy to read but somewhat dull. I'm not a Catholic and I'm rather glad. The author portays the brainwashing antics of the church and the dangers to our mortal souls. I think you need to be part of the religion to fully appreciate the implications of the story.

If you are studying Social Sciences it's an ideal way to get an insight to how the poor lived and died. The poverty, squalor and starvation is heavily emphasied, it's hard to believe families lived that way when we have such comfort.

I can't quite make out why it's called Angela's Ashes, yes she was the mother but why the ashes, theres no mention of them. It's a classic rags to riches story and an inspiration to those who have nothing.

I won't be reading the follow up of 'Tis', as I haven't been empassioned by the story. Although it's probably an ideal book to put in your suitcase for your hols.
