Angels and Demons is a bestselling mystery novel by Dan Brown. Introducing the character Robert Langdon, who is also the principal character of Brown's later, better-known, more controversial novel The Da Vinci Code. It also shares many elements with the better known novel, such as conspiracies of secret societies, a single day time frame and the Roman Catholic Church. The story involves a conflict between an ancient group, the Illuminati, and the Roman Catholic Church. The basic plot is a classic race against time to find a hidden bomb and hunt down a serial killer in Rome. As its backdrop, the book debates the question about which is to be trusted - science ... After being captivated by Dan Brown's highly controversial 'The Da Vinci Code', I had assumed that 'Angels and Demons' would be the tame sister of this media beast. Set predominantly in Rome, 'Angels and Demons' is a real time story following Havard professor Robert Langon and Vittoria Vetra, a high level scientist at the CERN complex in Switzerland. As events unfold, the stakes are risen page by page. 'Angels and Demons' is a thrilling read, forcing you into its dangerous, devastating plot and never for one moment letting you go. Be warned, you will begin to believe the book comes coated in glue, such is the difficulty one has in putting it ... Read the complete review

Simply could not put it down....and I never read! It takes some marbles to write such a hard-hitting book, that contains murders of Cardinals and the Pope, explosive weapons inside the Vatican, and the revealing of Christianity´s biggest secrets! However, all of these points mean one thing...a very, VERY good book. Robert Langdon, a Harvard Professor, travels with Vittoria to the Vatican city, after her father was found murdered with the logo of an ancient satanic brotherhood, the "Illuminati" branded onto his body. I really have to be careful here with what I say, as I would hate to ruin it for you, but the father of Vittoria had just made a ground ... Read the complete review

Angels and Demons is the "prequel" to the Da Vinci Code - the first adventure to feature the character of Robert Langdon. I read the Da Vinci Code well before all the hype, and found it very disappointing. To me, it was a badly written book which proved dull, predictable and lacking in excitement. True, I was already aware of the central themes of the book, so the "surprise" revelations didn't come as a shock to me, in the way they might have to other people and that might have robbed the book of some of its "shock value". In the interests of fairness, then, I decided to give Dan Brown another go and turned to Angels and ... Read the complete review

~ ~ A comment on my previous review of the thriller “Digital Fortress” by American author Dan Brown, who also wrote the bestseller "The Da Vinci Code", gave me pause for thought. It was along the lines that Dan Brown was using his novels to promote an “anti-Christian” agenda. In particular, it's alleged by many people that his most bitter vitriol and criticism is saved for the Roman Catholic Church. Obviously, as I am both Christian and Catholic (in that order) that notion caused me some concern, so I went off to investigate the claim in a bit more detail to see whether or not it was true, and if the claims had any substance. I read my third novel by Dan ... Read the complete review
