Advantages: great lead character, unpredictable in every way, superb writing
First published by Michael Joseph in 2002, published by Penguin books in 2003.
Decided to review this book as it was one of the first I read when I switched from horror stories at the age of 15!! Still a favourite and read often, really do need a new copy as its falling apart!
---About the author---
Marain Keyes is an internationally bestselling author, this book Angels was a Sunday Times number one bestseller soon after its release.
She is published in 19 languages and also brought out a collection of journalistic pieces titles 'Under the Duvet' and since then 'Further under the Duvet'.
Marian Keyes lives with her husband in Dublin.
Margaret (Maggie) Walsh: The main character, works for a legal firm; good job, good husband, a steady life or so she thinks!
Paul (Garv) Garvan: Maggies husband of 9 years.
Emily: Maggies best friend, a struggling scriptwriter in LA. the kind of great friend everyone needs!
This is a story of self discovery! Maggies own self discovery, after being married for 9 years in a steady job she was happy with her lot, or so she thought! the world suddenly tips upside down (her own doing) and everything changes.
Suddenly without the reliable husband and job, she comes out of her shell to say the least!
She runs off to LA (this is after quitting her job AND marriage) and stays with her best friend Emily. Along the way of self discovery meets a lot of strange and interesting people and does things she never dreamed she would do!
There are a lot of men (and one woman!) you wonder will she.. won't she..? and obviously I'm not gonna spoil it and tell you if she does! you find yourself for routing for certain ones and hoping she'll do the right thing!!
A really surprising read, more twists than any book i've ever read.
I love the unpredictability of Maggie and you really end up wanting the best for her whatever that may be!
Once you start this book you won't wanna put it down as every page contains a new surprise you totally weren't expecting!
