Since I was tiny I have adored animals. So when I discovered the delights of the Animal Ark books, written by author Lucy Daniels, I simply had to have them all! One I had in my collection was Guinea Pig in the Garage.
The first thing you notice with a book is the cover so it is important that it makes a good first impression. Thankfully, this cover is adorable! There is a picture of a guinea pig, which in my opinion looks a little like a hamster, all ginger and white and innocent looking. He is so sweet and is enough to draw any animal lover in, melting them instantly!
The story itself is about Mandy Hope. She lets her friend look after a guinea pig while she is away but she loses the guinea pig baby. It is up to Mandy and James to track down the animal before it gets itself hurt, and more importantly, before their parents find out!
This plot is quite enjoyful, I personally feel. It is full of quick paced action and emotion and will keep any little reader wondering what will happen next. I feet it is an ideal plot for children of aged 8 to 12. The writing in the book is a nice size and the language is nice and straight forward so it will not be a complete struggle for the less confident readers! It is also good for adults and older readers too, as it makes a nice light read when you just fancy something simple! I personally love this as a light read and often go back to it. It's such a complex yet to the point story, its amazing.
You can buy this book in stores for £5.99, such as WHSmith and Waterstones, which is likely how much I paid when I was younger. However you can now buy it from Amazon.co.uk for as little as 1p! Even with the £2.21 postage and packaging fee, I personally feel that it is a wonderful price and highly recommend you buy it from here!
This is a gorgeous book, one I read sitting alongside my own guinea pig, and love reading it. Its a delightful story with a lot of detail and perfect for sitting back with. It is perfect for any guinea pig or animal fan, and I am sure you will love it as much as I do!
