When I was younger I always had my nose in a book. Being the huge animal lover I was (and still am), I often chose to read books about animals. The Animal Ark book series by Lucy Daniels was very popular with me, and one of the titles was Hamster in the Hamper
Although you should never judge a book by its cover, I always do, so it is important that it looks quite good! Thankfully this one does. There is cute picture of a hamster on the front, which looks like the syrian I had a few years ago called Henrick. He seems to have straw behind him, and given the title of the book I would imagine it is the wall of the picnic hamper! Of course the only way to find out would be to read...
The book is about Mandy Hope, whose parets are vets, and her best friend James. They get to look after the school hamster over the holidays, something they were looking forward to, but it turns out that the hamster disappears. They need to find out who has taken him before its too late. Will they have to go back to school empty handed?
This is a delightful story and since I have had hamsters all my life (other than now...) I find it especially interesting. I feel it is perfect for children aged 8 to 13. The text is a nice size so they dont have to strain their eyes, and the language is basic and to the pont. It is quite simple so they will not be worrying that they do not understand it. Not only that but it makes a great light read for adults too! The book does not require much thinking so it is great to relax with.
The book can be bought in most good book stores for around £5.99, such as WHSmith and Waterstones. However if you go over to Amazon.co.uk you can get it for just 1p! Even with the postage and packaging charges of £2.75, it is a wonderful price! I would definitely recommend you buy it, as you are likely to read the wonders of it a good few times!
This is a delightful little book for any animal or hamster fan, and I am sure you will not regret reading it. The series itself is delightful and this is just one of the wonderful options.
