When I was little I used to read the Animal Ark books by Lucy Daniels all the time. They were so exciting, I just loved them to bits! One of these is Kittens in the Kitchen.
Cover:
You should never judge a book by the cover, but shamefully I always do! This one has a picture of two adorable grey kittens sitting on what we can assume is the kitchen floor! They look so sweet and innocent and melt you instantly, luring you right in!
Plot:
A stray cat has kittens in the school caretakers house and he wants to find them a home as soon as possible. It is up to Mandy Hope, daughter of two vets, to find them homes but can she do it, and will she want to keep one for herself?
Suitability:
The book is aimed at children around 8-13 years of age. I do agree with this. The text is a nice size and is easy to read with no overly complicated language. The story is nice and sweet too but has its meanings. Its a delightful read and can be enjoyed by anybody older too, a nice light read for an evening in!
Price:
You can buy this for as little as 1p from Amazon.co.uk. Even with the £2.75 postage and packaging charge, that really is not bad at all! It's a bargain compared to the £5.99 RRP price and is definitely money well spent as the pages you will find will soon be well thumbed!
This is a delightful read and is a great way to encourage children to read with its wonderful story. It is perfect for animal lovers, and I do find that it mainly girls who read it, but there is no saying it cannot be enjoyed by boys! I love it still, and I am sure plenty others will!

- 12/06/09 It seems like everything except the paragraph of plot could be about any of these books - no personal opinion relevant to the story at all. |
