Lucy Daniels is an amazing author who wrote the childrens collection of books called Animal Ark - a series about Mandy Hope, daughter of vets, and her love for animals. One of the books in the series is Lion by the Lake.
Cover:
A cover is the first thing you see with a book so it is important that it draws you in. Personally, I feel that this one does do just that. There is a picture of a lion cub staring out at you with its little eyes. You can almost see the tears leaking out of his eyes. It melts your heart, drawing you in instantly.
Plot:
This is another one of the 'away' books, set in Africa. Mandy and her best friend James find a lion cub down by the lake - lost and alone. It's in great danger and its up to Mandy and James to rescue the cub, but can they manage?
I think this is quite a good plot - I love lion cubs so this is definitely one that attracted me. This is an ideal read for younger children as it does not get overly complicated. It is aimed at children aged 8 to 13, and personally I feel that it is a great age to target. The little story will melt the hearts of animal and horse lovers, and may even bring a tear to some of them! Though it can be read by adults and older children too of course - the larger text and simple language makes a nice light read. It is also really good for the less confident reader, perfect for boosting their confidence and helping them to progress to books with deeper plots.
If you wish to buy this book it will cost you £5.99 in shops such as WHSmith or Waterstones, but if you go to Amazon.co.uk you can get it for around 1p, plus £1.21 postage and packaging. That, I personally feel, is a great price to pay, especially if you can get a copy that is in next to perfect condition, which you often can! I personally would pay that price for one for sure, Although I have had mine for a good number of years now!
This is a wonderful read for any fan of lions or the Animal Ark series, or even just animals in general. It is a great story and you will not regret it!
