Lucy Daniels is an amazing author who wrote the childrens collection of books called Animal Ark - a series about Mandy Hope, daughter of vets, and her love for animals. One of the books in the series is Pony in the Porch.
Cover:
A cover is the first thing you see with a book so it is important that it draws you in. Personally, I feel that this one does do just that. There is a gorgeous picture of a horse on the front, standing in what looks like a stable doorway. It is a very bright and sunny picture, very attractive and certainly drew me in.
Plot:
Mandy falls in love with a horse, and when she finds out that it is in danger by its snotty owner, the decides she must try and help the horse. But can she save him before its too late?
I think this is quite a nice little plot. It is full of adventure and action, but is not too busy either. This makes it ideal for younger children as it does not get overly complicated. It is aimed at children aged 8 to 13, and personally I feel that it is a great age to target. The sweet story will melt the hearts of animal and horse lovers, and may even bring a tear to some of them! Though it can be read by adults and older children too of course - the larger text and simple language makes a nice light read of an evening when there is nothing on the TV!
If you wish to buy this book it will cost you £5.99 in shops, but if you go to Amazon.co.uk you can get it for around 1p, plus £1.21 postage and packaging. That, I personally feel, is a great price to pay, especially if you can get a copy that is in perfect condition, which you often can! I personally would pay that price for one for sure! Although I have had mine for a good number of years now!
This is a delightful book for all animal and horse fans, and is great as a light read too. It has a deep and emotional story and is simply amazing!
