From an early age I have been an avid reader. I used to love a lot of 'collections' as a child, such as Mr Men and Little Miss, Two of a Kind, and of course the Animal Ark series. These amazing books written by Lucy Daniels is a collection about an animal lover named Mandy Hope. One of the titles is Squirrels in the School.

The cover of the book is very important, I feel, as it is when we make our first impressions. I personally think that this particular book has quite an amusing cover. There is a picture of two squirrels sitting in a classroom, a black board and stationary behind them. I think its uniqueness and its peculiar sense drew me to it, and indeed it won my vote on the cover term!

The book is about Mandy and her best friend James. When they are at school a family of squirrels start causing trouble and while they win the 'awws' of some, they are mainly causing more bother than gaining admiration. Mandy and James have to find somewhere for them to go before they ruin things completely...

One thing I find with Animal Ark books is that there is always an exciting or unusual plot, and this one is no exception. It is quite busy yet easy to understand. That is why I feel it is perfect for children aged 8 to 13 years of age. Also, the text is a good size so they will not strain their eyes, and with the clear and basic language, it is perfect since they will not fret when they cannot understand it! It is also a good light read for adults though as it is a nice and simple story with no serious thinking involved! It's wonderful!

If you go into a book store you can expect to pay around £5 or £6 for this, from places such as WHSmith or Waterstones, but I would recommend that you actually go to Amazon.co.uk. There, you can pay just 1p! Even with the £2.75 postage and packaging fee, I personally feel that it is a magical price and not to be missed! Get it while you can.

This was one of the first Animal Ark books I read and it had me hooked since. It is a wonderful story and is perfect to kick start a reading addiction!
