Newest Review: ... when you think you've got it all sorted in your head and know exactly where it is going (perhaps even being lulled into ... more  ... believing that the plot is rather derivative) it suddenly jerks away in a very different direction. The pleasing part comes because the book never gets out of hand, nor does it become confusing, and turn of events always seems entirely natural. Indeed, there is a very realistic feel to this book. On the face of it, Another World appears to be a rather straight forward ghost story, which may put some readers off. The truth is not quite so simple and it's a case of appearances being deceptive, as in reality, it's neither straightforward nor a "proper" ghost story. It centres around the life of a family and, in particular, a 101 veteran of the First World War, living out his final days haunted by guilt about what he did during the war. Trying to help him through this is his grandson, Nick, who is struggling with his own dysfunctional family... and just maybe suffering supernatural interferences as well.
