A hundred and one stories - well that just has to be good value for money I thought to myself. And in it's own way it is, not from the point of view of reading material thought, that is. This book consists of some of the most short stories I have ever read - most of them are around a paragraph long and go through the author's sordid love life and partners one by one. The girlfirends in the stories all have exotic names like 'Orchid' and 'Nightjar' and are involved in some of the most unusual situations - like calling their children 'Lesbian' because it's a pretty name or crushing their children's feet into pulp so that they will be attractive to men in later life. My favourite is one where the author is given his girlfriend's ashes by her family after she died, The problem is, he hadn't been in the relationship with her long and felt quite indifferent towards her. He was unsure what to do so he scattered them to the wind over the field where she used to ride her pony, much to the family's delight. A great book to read if you have a couple of hours to yourself, as this is about how long it takes to read it. It's full of sorrow, joy and a wonderful exploration of humanity - fantastic value for money.
