A couple of years ago I discovered that, due to a history of family cancer, I was at a higher than normal risk of cancer. I had genetic counseling and was given three options: 1.Have my ovaries and/or breasts removed as a preventive measure. 2.Have annual screening. 3.Do nothing. Option 1 seemed just too radical, and option 3 seemed foolish, so I decided to go for option 2. However, it seemed to me there was a fourth option that hadn't been mentioned, and that was to try and live a life that would help me resist cancer as much as reasonably possible.
