Advantages: Exciting

Disadvantages: Time travel makes book confusing

Artemis Fowl is a book that has been compared with Harry Potter many a time and in my opinion rightly so. Although, with the exception of Harry Potter, I don't like books with made up creatures I loved this series even with its paranoid centoirs, grumpy gnomes and bad tempered elves. I didn't even mind warlock imps. However I think time travel has taken things a bit too far.
Perhaps it would have been better for me to start of with a brief explanation of all the books before. Well here goes.
In the beginning Artemis Fowl finds out about a whole new species living underground. Fairies. For millenia they've been hiding away from "mud men" for fear of their lives. Never before have faries come into contact with the humans. Until now. Artemis Fowl finds one and kidnaps her. After catastrophic results for both human and fairy Artemis Fowl walks away with ransom money from Captian Holly Short.
In the second book Artemis Fowl helps stop a goblin revolution started by Opal Koboi a criminal mastermind. Captian Holly short who works in LEP a police unit also helps Artemis Fowl find his father who has been kidnapped by the mafia and save Foaly the paranoid centaur who has been the scapegoat for everything.
In the third book Artemis Fowl tries to sell lots of fairy technology. Unfortunately the man he is trying to sell it to takes it. Artemis Fowl then calls on help from fairy friends to try to get the device back. This takes a lot of cunning and wit. In the end Artemis Fowl is mind wiped for causing so much unneccessary trouble.
In the fourth book Opal Koboi clones herself to break out of prison. Fooling everyone she proceeds to kill Commander Root and worse still frame Captian Holly Short. Artemis Fowl is then called upon to help save the world above and under ground. The problem is that he doesn't remember anything. With huge skill and luck they make their way out and survive until the fifth book.
In the fifth book Artemis helps save fairies from random demons popping up. And unbeliavailably he does this for nothing. Not a single cent. In the end of this book Artemis finds himself three years into the future greatly scaring everyone.
So time travel. So unbeliavailable and so confusing. Confusing in the sense what happens if you go back in time and kill your parents. Do you exist? So Eoin Colfer just had to complicate things by making Artemis Fowl fight against his younger self.
Anyway apart from that slight snag I feel this book has been great like the rest of the series. Artemis Fowl as I hinted in the paragraph before has to find a special lemur to save his mother. That lemur happens to be extinct. So he has to go back in time. So who does he have to steal this lemur from? Thats right Artemis Fowl's deadlies challenge yet. Himself.
In my opinion this book is a great read and a must have for all young teenagers. This is easily readable and certainly worth the £6.99 retail price. Thank You for reading my review. I hope you have found it extremely beneficial. For more book revies please look on my profile
