Arthur in a pickle a childrens story book by Marc Brown . When my local library was having a clear out of books I noticed this one for sale at 40p price on it when new is £2.99p. I bought it to add to Adrian’s ever-growing library. (I think it’s suitable for a 4/5 year old till 6/7) There are several books about Arthur and his exploits. I believe Arthur is an Aardvaac the characters in this book are a variety of anthropomorphic animals with a few humans. This book was first published 1999in America. The story starts in the classroom the bell rings Mr Ratburn the teacher asks for the homework everyone hand it in but Arthur, Arthur says "my dog ate it” MrRatbone does not believe him. “Go to the headteachers office First thing in the morning . You’re in a pickle now Arthur. (His friends are shown laughing at him on this page Arthur goes home and “Just plays with his food” “ He tossed and turned in bed” He fell asleep. He then had bad dreams he was in a pickle car “ The pickle police were chasing him” They caught him. Then his friend in a pickle plane flew through pickle snow the pilot threw down a rope and picked Arthur up. They landed in pickle town where everything was made of pickle people had pickle features. Arthur was caught by the pickle judge and put in pickle prison on a pickle diet, all the food was made of pickle. Let me out says Arthur and he awakes from his dream went to his desk opened his book and did his homework. Next day in headteachers office “I cannot tell a lie he said My dog did not eat, My homework. I did not do my homework. But it is here now. I’m sorry. The headteacher smiled. Well thank you Arthur He said “. When Arthur got home from school he was offered pickled cabbage for tea. This book is 22 pag
es long. The story is written in rhyme the words clear in print for a reader your child may need help to read this book This book is a good book to read out loud to your child, or a class of children. I think a child of 5 /6 would enjoy reading this book. The pictures are not too complicated and the characters have wonderful expressions on their faces. I think Adrian will enjoy this when he is older. Best wishes thanks for reading. Remember reading to and with your children helps them and is fun. Mary
