Advantages: Clear, Consise, easy to understand
Disadvantages: No CD
I borrowed "Sams teach Yourself ASP 2.0 in 21 days" from a friend of mine, and was so impressed by what I had read, that I decided to buy a copy for myself. It is a great book, and although it is on the expensive side, you could do a lot worse. It actually is better value for money than other ASP books that I've looked at, so there are no problems there. It goes through every point clearly, not making you feel stupid, but without over complicating things, and making them difficult to understand. Unlike other books, it has a quiz section after every day/chapter, so you can work through it all, but you can't cheat- the answers for those are actually on the publishers web-site, so you can't 2just take a quick peek". The one downfall of this excellent book must be the fact that it lacks a CD. Obviously you would learn more ASP if you typed all the examples by hand, but if you are out of time, you could always take a look at the source code from the CD (if you had one). Here, if you want to see the code all up on a computer, you have to type it, which can be a time consuming process. Although the book was designed for Windows NT developers, it does touch on using it with Windows 95 & 98, but you can't- unless you have a server. Although PWS (Personal Web server) comes with Windows 98 you have to install it from the CD- which I didn't have (damn Time!). Also, what about the Windows 95 users? There was no mention of where on the Microsoft web-site you could download it from. So in conclusion, this is a great book, but oine that is lacking some great backup- namely the CD.
