'At Home in the World' is a memoir by writer Joyce Maynard and was first published in 1998. The daughter of artistic and eccentric parents, Maynard was writing and publishing stories before she reached her teens and later wrote a book called 'To Die For', which was subsequently turned into a film with Nicole Kidman. In 1972, while a student at Yale, she wrote an article for the New York Times magazine - and appeared on the cover - about an eighteen year old looking back on life. Among the hundreds of letters she recieved in response was one from none other than world famous, and notoriously reclusive, writer JD Salinger.
