Aurian is a young girl who lives with her mother, who is known as the lady of the lake. Her mother is an Earth mage who is currently bringing life back to the crater that was formed by an 'accident' caused by Aurians father Geraint. This 'accident' ended in the death of Geraint. Aurian is a stubborn young girl and soon her stubborness brings her into some trouble. Maggie Furey has written a series and a half now. The Artefacts of Power, of which this is the first book of four and the first two of a new series called The Shadow League; 'The Heart of Myrial' and 'The Spirit of the Stone'. I read the last two first and loved them. They are brilliant modern fantasy with a twist. Afterwards I was told about this series by my Mum and little brother who said that these were also brilliant and so here we are: This book tells the story of a young mage named Aurian. This book is amazing! It definitely has to be among the best books I have read in ages (saying that though, I do read loads!). It is the first in The Aretefacts Of Power quartet comprising of Aurian, Harp of Winds, The Sword of Flame and Dhiammara. The book is all about Aurian, a young mage. Aurian goes to study magic in a city quite far from her home after a near fatal accident. The arrogance of the magefolk in the city causes the mortals there to suffer, but so long as the magefolk are content, they will not lift a finger to help.
