Travels in the Scriptorium - Paul Auster:
... in Scriptorium by Paul Auster is in short quite a strange book. To be honest I m not even sure if strange covers it because after reading the book I m not even certain if I know what actually happened, although I am reasonably certain that this was probably the intended effect. Either way the book left me more than a little confused and the ending was... well strange. I d just like to point out at this poin... Read the full review: A cyclical Journey by MI9to5 |

True Tales of American Life - Paul Auster ... like structured dancing lessons: learning a routine, building on it each week, adding a bit here, tweaking a bit there. I like development and understanding, neither of which you can get from a single one-off class. It s the same with books. I like chapters, characters, plots and storylines, which is why I usually favour full-length novels over short stories. Therefore, I wasn t sure what to expect from this book. Would I like it? Would I even be able to tolerate the style, seeing as the 180 stories were penned by everyday Americans, not published authors? Was the reason it was on sale as an English language book in Germany because no one in the English language world a... Travels in the Scriptorium - Paul Auster ... scenario is set in a room, with Mr Blank who has limited memory, and everything in the room is labelled. Thus the mystery unfolds...... Just a nice, clever little read to tickle your brain. Thankfully, it s short and sweet and leaves you pondering darkly on its crafted, open-ended mystery at its centre(s). It s not often that you get the chance to read such a book. You ll find out at the end, so I can t give much away, but just urge you to pick it up. I d not read any previous Paul Auster books, so have no previous references. Apparently some of the characters feature in his other books. It s a bit similar to The Dumb Waiter in its reflections on the human spir... Read the full review: Short and Bitter-sweet Little Mystery by mcader |

Moon Palace - Paul Auster ... of my favourite movies of all time is The Music Of Chance starring James Spader and Mandy Patinkin. It is based on the novel by Paul Auster, who also has a cameo role in the film. In the movie Mandy Patinkin s character can be seen passing time by reading Auster s novel Moon Palace - which is why I got hold of a copy. It was the first Auster novel I d read. I had no idea what to expect really but I hoped it would deal with similar philosophies as dealt with in the movie I loved: the ideas of what fate and destiny is and where this leads you in life; the study of man s mind - his fears and hopes and how these manifest themselves in reality. On first beginning to ... Read the full review: Moon Palace Moves Me! by cyberem78 |
