The Authority Comics in general

Description: Genre: Graphic Novels / Comics

Newest Review: ... the comic. If anything, their relationship felt more real than that of Mary Jane and Peter Parker, Reed and Sue Richards or even Lois and Clark. With these factors in mind The Authority was, for a time, one of the most mature and intelligently written comics on the market. Of course, it also had a body count. The Authority had more than it's fair share of mass destruction. With each ... more

Crowned Review The Authority Comics in general: Hoping for a higher Authority (1679 words)

Rating:

I've read recent on the internet that DC are cancelling 'The Authority'; the extremely popular and acclaimed successor to 'Stormwatch' on the Wildstorm Studios imprint. The same news was also carried a recent edition of 'Wizard', although it was relegated to a sidebar. I can't tell you if this, in its entirety, is true or not. DC themselves seem only to have made concrete decisions to postpone some current and future projects. In typical Authority fashion, news is sparse and the comic's fan base is left trawling news sites and bulletin boards to get wind of if and when the next issue might hit the streets. Of course, everyone ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A rollercoaster ride each and every month (761 words)

‘The Authority’ takes every over-the-top, explosive blockbuster of a film you’ve seen, and slams them into twenty-four pages of joy each month. It does occur to me that out of the two titles Warren Ellis created for Wildstorm (The other being ‘Planetary’), The Authority is geared towards teenage fans, with its snappy dialogue, explosions, and gore galore. But I love it anyway. The first 12 issues of The Authority were written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Brian Hitch. Along with the inker, Laura Depuy, they combine to make one of the best teams ever seen in comics. The artwork in the comic is truly breathtaking, with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Authority Comics in general: Respect My Authoritah! (867 words)
by - written on 12/01/01 (Very useful, 88 readings)

'The Authority' is a comic book with a long and somewhat chequered past. Initially, the story started off as 'Stormwatch' which was really a rather drab affair. Full of characters int he same way as 'X-Men' and 'JLA' it never really grabbed the imagination. Quite the opposite in fact, it had far too many characters, mediocre artwork, and pathetic plots. It was just another one of those dull, over-populated comics that added little to the genre. And then Warren Ellis got his paws on it. Revolution! Within a few issues, Ellis had removed all the dead wood from 'Stormwatch' by the simple task of having the ...  Read the complete review

Nothing too major

Plenty of subplots, shocks and action each issue The artwork at the moment seems a little rushed, as does the storytelling. There’s hardly any room for characterisation at the moment.

The Artwork. The characters. The grand spectacle of the first six issues. The conspiracy that starts to form from there on... The first five or so issues may come across a slightly slow moving, with no larger plot tying the issues together.
