Advantages: Great, simple books.

Disadvantages: Most boys wouldn't enjoy them.

The Baby-Sitters Club was a series of books released in the 1980s and 1990s written by Ann M Martin. Over 200 books were produced including a selection of specials, which include mystery's and books following younger family members called Baby-Sitters Little Sister.

When I was younger I read most of the Baby-Sitters Club books along with most of my friends. They are fairly simple to read for someone above the age of 10 but can produce a suitable challenge for a younger child as the content is suitable for most ages. The books cover a wide range of issues within the main story line. The main characters are aged 12-14 throughout the books so they cover some of the issues of growing up.

The follow four main characters initially. They are Kristy Thomas, Claudia Kishi, Mary Anne Spier, and Stacey McGill. As the series progresses three other characters are introduced. Firstly Dawn Shafer and later, Mallory Pike and Jessi Ramsey. The girls enjoy baby-sitting so they set up a club to hire out their services to friends and family. The group meets regularly to take bookings and also to discuss how their baby-sitting has gone and how their lives are in general.

These books are great for any young girl as they are very entertaining and they are all of a suitable nature for children.

Summary: I would highly recommend these books for a young girl.
