I came across this book in a charity shop and having read the blurb on the back decided it was my sort of book. The story is about 3 women, Julia, Maeve and Samantha. Julia is living with Mark and their relationship is stuck in a rut. Julia is desperate to have a baby and hopes that this will also help her relationship with Mark. Mark goes along with the baby idea to please Julia but is struggling with the fact that despite all their efforts they do not seem able to conceive. Maeve is a commitment phobe and even the thought of a baby makes her panic. However, as a result of a one night stand she finds that she is pregnant and ... Read the complete review

***** The Story ***** This is a book about 3 women, Julia, Maeve and Sam and how babies affect their lives. The book is divided into 3 sections telling the story of each of the different women. Firstly we have Julia who is in a long-term relationship with Mark but who are in a bit of a rut relationship wise, Julia is desperate for a baby and thinks it will solve all their problems, but will it? Her obsession with getting pregnant starts to affect all aspects of her life including her work and her relationship. As time passes and she fails to get pregnant things eventually come to breaking point and Julia has to make a decision on what she really ... Read the complete review

I hardly ever get time to read nowadays but I recently received an e-voucher for amazon.co.uk and so I chose to spend it on this book (as good an excuse as any I suppose!). As I have just had my second baby I am still obsessed with all things babyfied. So, the fact that this book had 'baby' in the title meant it was a winner from the start! I really appreciate the rare few minutes that I get to sit down with a good book. This book made it time well spent. Although you may think it was a bit of a bus-man's holiday, with all the nappies and baby food, there was also a lot of humour and the odd glimpse of a more glamourous life for one (and later ... I am a big fan of chick lit. I love authors like Jill Mansell, Susan Lewis, Madeleine Wickham. I read quite a lot in the genre, but recently I have started to feel a little old. These authors seem to have thin, glamorous heroines with thin, glamorous friends. They are twenty-something, single, without kids. I am finding it harder to relate to this and although escapism can be a very good thing, sometimes I wish I could read books about ordinary thirty-somethings, with figures larger than size ten, husbands and children. I finally found a book like that and I loved it… BABYVILLE by Jane Green I discovered Jane Green maybe three or four ... Read the complete review

Jane Green is a real people person. To date she was written five books, Straight Talking, Mr Maybe, Jemima J, Bookends and now Babyville. They have all covered topic relevant to life today, including the search for Mr Right, the many Mr Wrongs, infidelity, HIV and the battle to lose weight, to name but a few. The focus on all her books though really is on the people, the importance of their friendships, relationships and their emotions. Green's formula works though and Jane Green remains one of my favourite authors, forging ever ahead of Helen Fielding. I eagerly await her books and each time I have sat and read them in one sitting, hooked, eagerly turning the ... Read the complete review
