Babette Cole is the author who wrote "Mummy laid an egg" which has sold ovre a million copies and also a favourite of mine "Dr Dog" (please see my previous review) which has also been made into a cartoon series. She illustrates her own books, drawing actually is her background - she has a first class degree from Art College in Canterbury and illustrated for the BBC including the infamous Jackanory.
