The baked bean Queen written by Rose Impey and illustrated by Sue Porter
I had a great time reading this book to my class last week . The baked bean queen is a picture puffin book published1988, first published in Britain in 1986 by William Hienemann ltd.
Now almost all children eat and like baked beans so it will mean something to most of them. This story is narrated by the baked bean queens sister . We open the book to see a birthday party of 11 children. The children look as if they are having fun sprawling across the table blowing the candles out that are on the pizza. The text is. On my birthday I eat pizza. I love it.
Turn the page and we see dad eating spaghetti his favourite meal, mum eats chicken and rice on her birthday. Here I went into a discussion with the children what is your favourite meal?
Turn the page and we see the birthday party table again , they look the most revolting children one asleep with her feet up on the table another throwing pizzas at the boy next to her, The table has lots of birthday food on it do you have those little sausages at your bday party and there are those smiley face biscuits in the centre is a big birthday cake that looks nice anyway the words say BUT MY SISTER EATS BAKED BEANS . We call her the baked bean queen , over the page we see the mum cutting up sausages sometimes my mum hideeeeees sausages in the beans I read , ( does your mum do that/ I know I used to do that when my daughter was small)more text but my sister says…………&a mp;#8230; No. Oh look now what has she done? On the next page she has tipped them all over the dog , he is licking his lips.
Next page we see something I am sure daddies do all over the world.Big smile on his face arm around little sister he is saying eat it for daddy, oh he has a really soppy look on his face . but my sister says NO and on the next page we see her trying to stuff the sausage into daddies mouth. Who has not heard the next words we see in the book I will eat it if you dont but my sister says good . My mum says youll turn into a baked bean young lady Turn over its the last page.
Little sister is sitting with a big smile on her face and says, Good I love baked beans and she has a big smile on her face.
I hope you enjoyed that tale its teatime now what are you having for tea , J
