The Book of Dave - Will Self
Inventive, ambitious, some fantastic ideas and characters. Difficult writing style to get into, loses its way badly towards the end.

Drums of Autumn - Diana Gabaldon
Fantastic story, great characters It's a big book if you don't like 1000+ page novels!

Something Good - Robert N. Munsch
Challenges stereotypes but is also as funny as mustard illustrations are quite canadian looking (note the lumberjack shirt on dad) which may not appeal

The Vanished Man - Jeffrey Deaver
A lot of brilliant technical knowledge for fans of Penn and Teller-style illusions Plot is lacking credibility and villian is bit 2-dimensional
