Daughters of Fire - Barbara Erskine

Premium Review Queen Cartimandua: Traitor of Britain? (1271 words)
by taker4376 - written on 29/06/09 (Very useful, 51 readings)
Rating:

of 12 books. The most recent book she has written is called "The Warrior s Princess" and it deals with the same time period as "Daughters of Fire". Barbara Erskine has a very distinct style, mixing historical fiction with the paranormal. They all have the same basic premise, a modern character grounds the story in the present but they become linked in some way to a character from the past. The reader follows the modern character trying to cope with their link to the past as well as following the historical characters story. Many of the stories are based in Wales or Scotland as she studied Scottish history at Edinburgh University and she lives on ...

The Warrior's Princess - Barbara Erskine

Premium Review Two people connect across the ages (2008 words)

course it also peaked my interest in the book so I was looking forward to getting into it when she was done. If you have never read a Barbara Erskine book before, they all have a similar theme. She was trained as a historian and her books use a lot of history in them and bring it to life. She often takes obscure historical characters, so that she can use her own artistic licence to create their story. A modern character is used to ground the story and the character from history becomes linked to them via a common need/event. This link affects the life of the modern character and the reader follows their journey to come to terms with what happened to the person in the ...

Midnight is a lonely place - Barbara Erskine

Premium Review Spooky goings on in essex! (332 words)
by Tara_OConnell - written on 07/07/06 (Useful, 47 readings)
Rating:

The book has everything, horror, suspense, romance, passion, terror, Barbara Erskine writes weather like no one else, you really get a strong picture in your head, I really recommend this book to anyone whos interested in history, spooky goings on and feeling a bit frightend themselves! I love this book, but like I said, the end for me, let me down a bit, kind of an anti climax, but still an excellent read. It read the book over a weekend and couldn t put it down, I found myself glancing round my room, a little scared and unerved! There is lots more to this book not mentioned in my plot description, I didn t want to spoil it too much! I hope you read it and enjoy it ...
