The Dark Knight Strikes Again, a graphic novel by Frank Miller, is a the sequel to Miller's classic The Dark Knight Returns, a much praised series of comics/graphic novel which saw a fiftysomething Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to fight crime again as Batman. Like its predecessor, The Dark Knight Strikes Again is a deconstruction of the superhero genre with dark themes and satirical elements. Before opening this graphic novel I was instantly drawn back to 15 years ago when I was drawn into the brutal and captivating story that Frank Miller wrote and pencilled in The Dark Knight Returns. The Dark Knight Returns was ground breaking in its day and is said to have been single handed in bringing back the entire Batman franchise starting with the Tim Burton series and now with Christopher Nolan. Its presence is still felt today, hence the Dark Knight title of the latest movie. So imagine how all of us fans felt when we heard there would be a sequel to such a milestone in comic book history with The Dark Knight Strikes Again.
